Will Ranocchia Be The Perfect Replacement For Mexes?

Andrea Ranocchia has been associated with a move to AC Milan to strengthen center back role. This is a potential move to replace the out of position and injured Philippe Mexes. Mexes has not played for AC Milan following an injury. Sinisa Mihajlovic the new manager seems not have Mexes in his plans and his injury could seem a cause to rejoice. The new manager has not spoken on a move for Ranocchia, if he does, what has been a rumor could seem a reality as the winter transfer season draws near.

The 33-year-old Philippe Mexes is a France professional who formerly played for his national team. He started his football career at 12, in Auxerre. Initially, he trained at Bastille and became an integral player for the youth team. He captained the youth team to lift many cups. In the senior team, Mexes was part of the squad that won Coupe de France in 2003. Mexes entered into a 4 year deal with Roma in 2004 and made his first appearance in Serie A against Fiorentina. Mexes turned out to be an important player in the central defense and helped Roma to make it through to quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League in 2006-07.

In 2007, Mexes signed another 5 year deal that would see him earn 4.5 million euros the first year, a figure that would rise to 5 million euros by the final year of the contract. His contributions made him see Roma qualify for the quarter-finals of EUFA Champions League for a second consecutive year. This time round, Roma lost to Manchester United, who eventually became the Champions.

Mexes moved to Ac Milan in 2011 after completing a move from Roma. He was given the same squad number he had at Roma, shirt number five. His first appearance with Milan was at home against Parma where Milan won 4-1. Mexes only played 24 games that season and fell to the third choice in the pecking orders behind the talented Thiago Silva and Alessandro Nesta. The following season became a first choice central defender after Thiago and Nesta exited the club. In the 2012-13 season, Mexes and Zapata from Villareal formed a good combination in the central defense conceding only 12 goals in the second half of the season.
